Nel suo lucido e non meno drammatico libro intitolato "Il lavoro non è una merce", Luciano Gallino, due anni fa, scriveva che «nell'oceano del lavoro, la tempesta deriva dall'aver messo in competizione tra loro, deliberatamente (il corsivo è mio), il mezzo miliardo di lavoratori del mondo che hanno goduto per alcuni decenni buoni salari e condizioni di lavoro, con un miliardo e mezzo di nuovi salariati che lavorano in condizioni orrende con salari miserandi». Oggi possiamo dire che questa concorrenza vigliacca e spietata è stata pienamente messa a profitto dal capitale nei "punti alti dello sviluppo", dove il quadro dei diritti individuali e collettivi, il sistema di protezione sociale e il diritto del lavoro sembravano costituire uno zoccolo sufficientemente solido da potersi considerare, una volta per tutte, acquisito. Quello che quotidianamente si palesa sotto i nostri occhi è che nulla è più certo e tutto è in discussione. Ed è proprio la grande impresa a rendersi protagonista della più radicale regressione dei rapporti sociali. Si pensi alla Fiat, che prende in ostaggio i lavoratori di tutti i propri stabilimenti per ottenere dallo Stato più risorse di quante ne abbia sin qui munte. O che dispone il fermo della produzione a Termini Imerese (già condannata alla chiusura), fintanto che i lavoratori della Delivery Email, cui è stata revocata la commessa, non cessino protest actions.
